Heads of the basic scientific directions

Sumbaev Oleg Igorevich, the founder of scientific school, works in Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute till 1971) of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 1958, was graduated from Physical and Mechanical Department of Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (now St. Petersburg State Technical University), Doctor of Sciences (Phys. and Math.), 1966, Corresponding Member of RAS, 1979, Head of the Laboratory of X- and g-ray spectroscopy (NRD) till 2000, Chief Scientist of the Laboratory (since 2000).

Fedorov Valery Vasil'evich works in PNPI (branch of PTI till 1971) since 1971, after graduating from Physical Department of St. Petersburg State University, Doctor of Sciences (Phys. and Math.), 1995, Head of the Laboratory of X- and g-ray spectroscopy (since 2000), Deputy Director of NRD.

Grushko Yuly Sergeevich works in PNPI since 1961, after graduating from Chemical Department of St. Petersburg State University and post-graduate study, Candidate of Sciences (Chem), 1970, Head of Labora-tory of chemistry and spectroscopy of materials (NRD).

Samsonov Vladimir Mikhajlovich works in PNPI since 1973, after graduating from Physical Department of St. Petersburg State University and military service, Doctor of Sciences (Phys. and Math.), 1986, Head of the Laboratory of relativistic nuclear physics (HEPD), Deputy Director of PNPI.

Smirnov Alexey Ivanovich (1937-1996) worked in PNPI from 1961 till 1996, was graduated from Physical and Mechanical Department of Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, Candidate of Sciences (Phys. and Math.), 1969, was initially Head of Laboratory of nuclear spectroscopy (NRD), then Head of Laboratory of mesonic atoms (HEPD). This Laboratory in turn is divided into two Groups of mesonic and pionic atoms.
